About the Department of Economics
A Natural Home for MEADS
The Department of Economics of the University of Macedonia is one of the University’s central academic units and forms part of the School of Economic and Regional Studies. It provides an intellectually rich environment for the study of economic theory, applied economics, econometrics, public policy, environmental economics, industrial organization, financial and monetary economics, and related areas.
MEADS is designed to draw on these strengths while extending them into the world of modern data analysis, utilizing the relevant resources of the Department of Applied Informatics. Students are trained not only to understand economic mechanisms and policy problems, but also to work with data, models, algorithms, empirical methods, and computational tools. This combination is essential for graduates who wish to pursue careers in policy institutions, research organisations, consulting, financial institutions, technology-oriented firms, international organisations, and PhD-level academic pathways.
The University’s academic culture also places emphasis on quality assurance and continuous improvement. The Quality Assurance Unit of the University of Macedonia is responsible for supporting the continuous improvement of educational and research work, as well as the effective operation and performance of University services, in line with international practices and the European Higher Education Area.
